For most riders travelling from Europe, the simplest and most comfortable route to Leh is to fly to Delhi first, then take a domestic flight into the Himalayas.
It keeps the arrival straightforward, saves precious riding time and gives you the best chance to begin your journey rested. The flight into Leh is also a beautiful introduction to the terrain ahead: mountains rising beyond the window, wide valleys and the feeling that you are entering a completely different world.
Step 1: Europe to Delhi
Book an international flight from your preferred European airport to Delhi. Depending on your departure city, you may fly directly or connect through a major hub. I recommend arriving in Delhi at least one night before your onward flight to Leh.
That overnight buffer makes the journey calmer. It protects you against delayed international flights, gives you time to rest and lets you begin the next morning without rushing through a tight connection.
Step 2: Delhi to Leh by air
From Delhi, take a domestic flight to Leh. This is the best option for most visitors joining a Trans-Himalayan Odyssey ride: quick, practical and spectacular.
Book this sector separately once your international travel is confirmed, and choose an early departure where possible. Morning flights are often a sensible choice in mountain regions, but flight operations and schedules can change—always confirm the latest information with your airline before you travel.
Europe → Delhi → one night in Delhi → morning flight to Leh → rest and acclimatise in Leh before the adventure begins.
Give the mountains time
Leh sits at high altitude, so the first day should not be about doing more. It should be about letting your body adjust. Drink water, keep the day light, skip alcohol and listen to how you feel. We build acclimatisation into our journeys because arriving well is part of riding well.
Do not plan a demanding ride immediately after landing. Give yourself time in Leh before high passes, long distances or hard off-road sections. This is one of the most important decisions you can make for a safe, enjoyable Himalayan experience.
What to arrange before you leave
- Your India entry requirements and any travel documents.
- International travel insurance that covers high-altitude motorcycle riding.
- Your Delhi-to-Leh flight and a flexible overnight stay in Delhi.
- Any medication or personal essentials you would rather not search for after arrival.
- A little room in your itinerary for weather or airline changes.
The route may be simple, but the feeling on arrival is anything but ordinary. One flight from Delhi and you are in Ladakh—ready to slow down, take a breath and begin the road to the top of the world.
